How to see passwords saved on Android

Android smartphones and tablets use a feature, called Smart Lock, to automatically log into websites and apps. The option should already be active when you connect a Google account to the device but, in case you are not sure, you can check through the appropriate section in the Settings of Android.

Then start the app Settings that you find on the home screen and select the items Google > Smart Lock for passwords from the screen that opens. In the section you see, make sure it is set to ON the option Smart Lock for passwords. If so, you can view all the access credentials on which you have given positive confirmation from time to time for their storage; otherwise, you could still proceed to read the next lines, to find out if there are older data stored before its deactivation or those of other devices to which you have associated the same Google account.

If your intent is to find the password you used to log into one WIFI network, I can recommend an app that requires, however, the use of root permissions: WiFi Key Recovery, downloadable for free from the Android Play Store.

This application allows you to access the system files in which the access data to the Wi-Fi networks saved on the device are stored. If you are interested in its use, download the app via the link I provided and press the button Install, Then Accept and finally, su apri.

After starting the application via its quick start icon that you find on the home screen, press the button Conceded to grant it root access. Now, wait a few seconds for all the Wi-Fi passwords stored on the Android device to be shown to you.

By tapping on the Wi-Fi network of your interest, you will be shown a small screen through which you can copy the password (Copy password) and all related data, such as SSID and type of encryption (Copy all), or create a QR code to quickly share data with another device (Show QR code).

App to keep passwords

In addition to the solutions I indicated in the previous paragraphs, you can recover passwords from specific apps used for this purpose. I'm talking to you about password manager apps, such as KeePass, a free and open source service that can be used not only in the mobile field, but also in the desktop.

At the time of writing, there is no official app that allows you to access KeePass on the go, but you can do this through third-party apps that base their operation on the service in question. One of the best on the square is Keepass2 Android, which is free and quite simple to use (if you have a device without Google services, see if there is any alternative store).

After completing the download of Keepass2Android on your smartphone or tablet, start the app and tap the button Open file ... to select a database file with passwords. In case you don't have a database file with your passwords, click on Create a new database ... and create one right now.

If you have opted for this second solution, decide whether to save the file in the .kdbx on your device or on a cloud storage service: press the button Change position and specify the position of your interest (eg. System file selector, dropbox, etc.). In the text fields Password e Confirm password, write the password with which to protect the archive.

I would like to point out the possibility of generating a secure password using the function integrated in the app: just press the button (...) located at the section Main password, indicate the length of the password and which characters to include in it and then press the Generate password button. If this satisfies you, tap on the button (✓) Accept (bottom right). Once this is done, click on the button Create database.

Now, in the new screen that has opened, press the button capacitor positive (+) lead located at the bottom right, press on the symbol of key and, in the opened menu, indicates which type of data to protect (eg. Default item, SubscriptionCredit card, etc.). To save the password, then, tap on the floppy disk icon (top right) and close the database by pressing the padlock (top right). Simple, right?

If you want to know other apps similar to the one I just told you about, I recommend that you read my guide on apps to keep passwords.
