Preliminary information
Before getting to the heart of the tutorial, going to explain what are the operations to be performed to try to recover WiFi password, there is some preliminary information that it is my duty to provide you.
Let's start from a fixed point: recovering the Wi-Fi password is an absolutely legal practice as regards your wireless networks. Instead, try to intervene on the access keys of the wireless networks of others, without permission, instead constitutes a serious breach of privacy and it can even represent a crime.
In light of the above, I invite you to put into practice the instructions contained in this guide only and exclusively to try to recover the lost password of your Wi-Fi network. It is absolutely not my intention to encourage illegitimate activities, therefore I take no responsibility for the use you may decide to make of the information in this guide.
Also, if in the future you want to avoid losing the access key to your wireless network, I recommend that you consider using a password manager, i.e. a software that allows you to store passwords and other sensitive data such as protecting them with a single master password (eg. 1Password o Bitwarden). How to recover WiFi password from PC
Having made the necessary clarifications above, let's get to the real heart of the matter and let's find out how to recover WiFi password from PC. Below, therefore, you will find explained how to proceed on Windows e MacOS.
How to recover WiFi passwords from Windows 10
By default, Windows it stores the passwords of the wireless networks to which you connect with the PC, so that you do not need to type them again from time to time, and allows you to go back to the data in question (at least as regards active connections).
To try to recover WiFi password from Windows 10, therefore, you can take advantage of this feature. How? Right click onnetwork icon (Quella with him Wi-Fi cleats) located in the lower right corner, next to thesystem clock, and choose the item Open Network and Sharing Center give the menu to compare.
In the new window that is shown to you on your desktop, click on the wireless network name of your interest (in correspondence with the item Internet) and, in the further window that opens, click on the button Details and choose the tab Safety.
After completing the above steps, you will be able to see the password of the Wi-Fi network you are currently connected to next to the wording Network security key. If the password is not visible, just put a check mark next to the item Show characters, to repair.
How to recover WiFi password from Mac
You are using an Apple-branded computer and would like to know how to recover WiFi password from Mac? In this case, passwords used to access previously stored wireless networks are stored in Portachiavi access, the “standard” application on macOS through which you can view all login and credit card data saved on your computer and other Apple devices connected to the same iCloud account.
That said, to leverage Keychain Access for your purpose, log into the Launchpad, facendo click on the relative icon (Quella with il space rocket) located on the Dock bar, open the folder Other and select l 'icona dell'applicazione (Quella with il bunch of keys).
In the window that appears on the desktop, click on the item System that you find in the section Keychains, on the left, click on the item Password placed in correspondence with the section Category (always located on the left), locate the wireless network name of your interest from the list on the right and double-click on it. Eventually, you can help you identify the network by typing its name in the search field at the top right.
After completing the above steps, in the additional window that opens, check that the tab is selected Attributes (otherwise you can do it yourself) and check the box next to the item Show the password.
In the new window that will be shown to you at this point, type the your account name your macOS and the Password associated with it, then click on the button Allow, in order to unlock access to the content of your interest. Then, you will find the password of the network of your interest in correspondence with the field Show the password.
How to recover mobile WiFi passwords
You do not have a computer at hand and would be interested in understanding how to recover WiFi password from mobile. In that case, follow the instructions below, which apply to both Android that for iOS / iPadOS.
How to recover WiFi passwords from Android
If you are interested in understanding how you can recover WiFi password from Android, I inform you that you can succeed in your intent by using an application used for the purpose: WiFi Key Recovery. It is completely free and allows you to view the complete list of the access keys of the wireless networks to which you have connected on your device.
The only thing to take into consideration is that, in order to work correctly, the app requires that the smartphone or tablet used be performed root. If you do not know what it is, I inform you that it is a procedure that allows you to acquire administrator permissions in the system and, therefore, to perform various operations that would normally not be allowed (including access to protected files).
Rooting is not always difficult, but it varies from device to device and can result in data loss and invalidation of the device warranty. For more details, I suggest you read my guide focused specifically on how to root Android.
That said, to download WiFi Key Recovery on your device, visit the relevant section of the Play Store and press the button Install. Then, start the app by tapping the button apri comparso sullo schermo oppure selecting the relative icon which has just been added on the home screen or in the drawer.
Next, grant the app the necessary permissions for the superuser and, once its main screen is displayed, locate the name of the Wi-Fi network whose password you want to recover from the proposed list: then tap on it and you will find the relative password in correspondence with the item psk.
If you deem it appropriate, you can help you locate it using the search field at the top, by typing the name inside.
How to recover WiFi passwords from iPhone
If you are interested in finding out how to recover WiFi password from iPhone (as well as from iPad, it makes no difference), I inform you that to succeed in the business you can use, even in this case, the ICloud Keychain: the Apple service thanks to which it is possible to store and synchronize all login and credit card data stored on iOS / iPadOS and macOS via the cloud.
Therefore, you must have a Mac and trace the password of the wireless networks you connected to from the "iPhone by" using the application Portachiavi access macOS, proceeding in the same way as I indicated in the step above on recovering Wi-Fi passwords on Mac.
How to recover WiFi password from router
Are you unable to retrieve the Wi-Fi password because the access key to your wireless network is not stored on the computer or mobile device you are using? Then you can try to trace the data in question through the router.
More precisely, you can take a look at thelabel located under or behind the device, which usually shows the name of the wireless network generated by it and the access key to use to log in. If you have not made any changes to the basic configuration of the router, these data should be valid.
Alternatively or in any case if no label is available, you can try recover WiFi password from router consulting the User Manual of the device, generally attached to the sales package of the same.
You can also trace the wireless network password generated by the device through its own management panel. To access it, to begin with, make sure you are connected to the device (maybe via Ethernet cable, if you are unable to access the Wi-F), start the browser you usually use to browse the Internet (eg. Chrome), and connect to the address 192.168.1.1 oppure all'indirizzo 192.168.0.1 (which are the default IPs for most routers).
If neither address seems to work, you can try to fix it by following the instructions you find in my guide on how to access the router. If you are asked to also type in a username and password combination to enter the router's management panel, try admin / admin or admin / password (which are the most used predefined combinations). Once logged in, to find the Wi-Fi password, go to the section of the control panel dedicated to configuration or to secure wireless network and you can view the data of your interest in correspondence with the network name (the'SSID).
If you are using a router with support for 5GHz (dual-band) networks, please note that you may have different passwords for the network in question and for the 2.4GHz network. In this case, after logging in to the management panel, you must access both the menu with the settings of the 2.4GHz wireless network than to the one with the settings of the 5GHz wireless network.
