Preliminary information
Before getting to the heart of this guide and showing you, in practice, how to change password on PS4, I believe it is my duty to provide you with some clarifications regarding the types of "access key" that can be used on the console.
In the current state of things, the types of passwords that can be set on PlayStation 4 are at least three.
- System password - this access key is used to impose a series of very specific restrictions on the console, such as blocking the creation of new users or filters for Web content, apps, games, and so on.
- Profile password - it is a password that can block access to a specific user profile configured on the PlayStation.
- PSN password - this password is used, instead, to protect your PlayStation Network account (essential to take advantage of many features of the PS4, including the use of PlayStation Plus).
As you may have easily guessed, these three "passwords" dominate very different aspects of the PS4 user experience and are absolutely unrelated to each other. I consider it necessary to specify that, in case of loss, it is possible to recover only the password associated with the PSN: to reset the other two codes, however, it is necessary to proceed with a complete reset of the console.
